Angler, Astronomer and Copernicus started out on what was planned as a 5 mile ruck at Boyce Park.
The usual start, right on Sardis, right on Boyce Road.
I planned the route using http://www.gmap-pedometer.com and then transferred the route via GPX to the GPX Navigator app on my iPhone. As many of us know, the map recon and reality can be surprising.
We blew right past the turn off and had to double back a few yards to find the turn off into the woods. It was nicely camouflaged. There was a trail there. Well, it was more like a goat trail. (the goat trail section is in blue). The first 2 miles was us following Copernicus, who has a knack for staying on the trail. (In case you aren’t tracking, Copernicus is not his F3 call sign, that’s his real name, pic below) This trail wasn’t made for speed rucking. (not that today’s crew are the speediest ) Whenever I do this kind of stuff it brings back memories. Rucking is usually just slogging down the road, but this was more like patrolling. Walk a few steps, check the map, look for landmarks, but it is always fun to move around in the dark.
Once we cleared the woods, we were back on the larger trails and picked up some speed, out to the greenway down to Monroe Road, where we turned around. Our four legged companion thinks he is a waterdog. He hit every puddle between the woods and Monroe road (and some in between). We didn’t do the loop to the E of Monroe Road. On the way back we stayed on the larger trails, cutting back through the soccer field, out the park entrance and back to the car. Results are below. (Passed in this case is the distance travelled, Distance was the route’s total distance).

Thanks for your leadership. Looking forward to meeting Capernicus sometime soon!
Great Ruck. Different. #nightvision Avoided an Angler Special Mud Bath on the Greenway! #progress
Can’t wait to get back out on these long rucks!!!
For Copernicus and his fellow scientists, 8.0479 km = 5.0007332 statute miles. Astronomer slightly exceeded his distance goal if you are counting.
